Rose quartz is a member of the Quartz family found in course-grained rock, usually granite. Its name is derived from its colour, which ranges from very pale pink to deep reddish pink. Impurities of titanium or manganese gives rose quartz its colouring and also causes it to grow predominantly in massive form (but sometimes grows in small clusters).

According to the Greek myth about Adonis and Aphrodite, Aphrodite was cut by a thorn bush while saving Adonis from an attack by Ares. Their combined blood stained white quartz to make it a pink colour. Romans customarily used Rose Quartz as a gift of love.
